Now that I have a new picture package to insert photos, I have practised using these photos of some innovations that students decided would be good for reminding people about the sacrifice made be so many at Gallipoli. Enjoy.

Spellathon

Posted in Uncategorized           No Comments »

Students have been given a list of words at their instructional level, to learn over the next three weeks. This will serve two purposes; one as the basis of their spelling programme, and two, as a source of getting sponsorship.

We need to raise quite a substantial amount of money to fund our Camp Wellington trip; over and above the $130 fee that parents pay. In the past, we have done this very successfully so we hope that it works for us again this year. It is your choice whether you get sponsorhip from friends, family or work colleagues or not, or whether you simply want to make a donation as a family. All students learn their words whether they have sponsors or not.

Testing will happen on Friday 1 June when the teachers can sign individual forms to authenticate the result for collecting pledges. When all the money is collected, students can put it in a named plastic bag and drop it into the money slot in Ngaire’s office. Money does not need to come to the classroom. There is a prize of a new soda stream for the person who raises the most money.

NZSO Outing

Team 3 had the wonderful opportunity of attending a performance by the NZSO at the Municipal Theatre today, Thursday 10 May. It was a fabulous performance where our very own Viking came out onto the satge, explained what the myth was about, had the orchestra give a us preview into the kinds of motifs they would play to represent various characters, then played the whole song for our pleasure. It has generated a lot of discussion at school; I encourage you to ask questions about the whole experience. Our students behaved with decorum and observed all the etiquettes of attending the theatre. Lisa, Gary and I were very proud of them all.

Blog Probs

I apologise for the lack of posts in recent weeks. We have been having issues with our picture manager software which means we can write up posts but cannot attach our photos with it. We are working on it and hope to resume transmission shortly!

Life has been fairly hectic lately with team 3 attending a number of activities which support our learning in the classroom. We don’t have anything much planned for weeks 4-8 other than good old-fashioned focus on the core curriculum which will be nice.

Team 3 teachers have organised for as many students who want to, have the opportunity to attend the Dawn Parade service at the Sound Shell tomorrow, 25 April at 6am. We will assemble near the i-site office from 5.15 – 5.40, then make our way over to the Veronica Bell area to be as close as we can be to the actual ceremony as possible. Students have been asked to wear warm, tidy clothing that befits the occasion, and are encouraged to wear family medals if they have them to wear. Apparently it is customary to wear someone elses medals on the right side of the chest but either way, I’m sure their relatives would be proud of them no matter what. We might see you there.

Team 3 went on a bus to Onekawa Pools to compete against Onekawa School. At the end, we won three team out of four team relays. The Yr 5 girls and boys won while the Year 6 girls won also. Have a look at these photos of some Room 10 students.

Welcome to our Class Blog everyone. I hope you will continue to use this to keep up with what has happened and is about to happen in class as well as giving you the opportunity to interact with us as often as you like. In fact, we encourage you to comment on this blog; it makes it much more purposeful that way. I can’t pretend to be anywhere near as techie as Terry, but I will do my best!
